TOUR
OF THE CITADEL [ARCHIVED
PAGE originally published 2004]
Written by DetErest For
the longest time, many players believed that the Citadel was nothing more than
a small test arena, without any real points of interest. But now that the level
has finally been discovered, it turns out that there's more to be found here than
we ever could have imagined. All kinds of strange obstacles, which were likely
used to test various aspects of the game.
This
"tour" explores each of the main rooms, pointing out some of the sights
to be seen.
This
"map" can be used for reference by following the marked letters with
the other screenshots on this page.
By using the Citadel's moonjump code, we can get
a nice overhead view of the arena. There are four main rooms, connected by ramps
and hallways. The ramps connect to each other in the middle of this screenshot. |
A
This
view is from one of the ramps, looking down into a room with 16 "t"
shaped blocks. Here
on the "ground", we have a closer look at these strange "t"
shaped dividers. In the middle of the room, we can see the pointed white pillar. |
B
Here,
we have four small triangular rooms, with another pointy white pillar.
This
screenshot from the top of the ramp shows the triangle rooms from above, as well
as the room from location "A". |
C
Definitely
one of the most interesting pieces of this arena, is the big narrow stairwell.
It doesn't have any railings, and has two 'entrances'. A
ground view screenshot, looking up at this mysterious stairwell. |
D This
rather odd room has three strange structures. Each one is triangular, and has
a small ramp that leads nowhere. These little ramps could have been good camping
places for sniping. Another
view of these structures, where we can see the opening to one of them, revealing
a tiny room inside. |
A further view of the Citadel, with the big stairwell on the right. To the
left, we can see a few indents in the hallway, for ambushing unsuspecting players. |
